Most of my professional work has been on the topic of the US labor movement and its efforts to revitalize (see list of key publications).  Recently I have shifted my research to the sociology of higher education. I am currently at work on a book intended for students to help them better understand the mission of the university and the purpose of a college education in the hopes they will get as much from it as they can.
