A School Board in Colorado seeks to ban the teaching of dissent and protest in the public school curriculum in favor of celebrating free enterprise, respect for authority and a particular brand of patriotism. In response the students stage a walk out and protest. (Click here or photo for link)
My students of social movements and political sociology and those who participated in or observed the I Paid For Flanagan movement in the spring may be particularly interested. Students in Introductory Sociology may also recognize the Board’s efforts to construct a reality more in line with their views and the counter efforts of students to deny them that power.
